I’m Malik Appleton, a trained scientist and healthcare professional with extensive experience in the hemp beverage space.

Since the 2018 Farm Bill, my work has spanned cannabinoid formulations, regulatory documentation, quality systems, and manufacturing. I’ve worked with startups and established companies across stages of growth, from early development before a product launches to businesses with more than $10 million in annual recurring revenue.

Beverages are my primary area of expertise, supported by experience across CBD products, edibles, and smokables. My work includes THC, THC analogs, and naturally occurring and synthetic cannabinoids, bringing scientific context to formulation, ingredient evaluation, and the regulatory questions surrounding different product categories.

I also develop educational content on the endocannabinoid system and engage with industry stakeholders on emerging policy. I have provided expert testimony and input to lobbying and legislative bodies, contributing scientific and operational perspectives to discussions about the cannabinoid industry.

My regulatory expertise spans all 50 states. I have supported regulatory submissions in Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, New Jersey, Connecticut, Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Iowa, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, and Indiana, including work involving state departments of agriculture and other relevant regulators.

Appleton Seed Solutions connects that experience with independent public source analysis. The goal is practical: help your team understand the requirements, evaluate the implications, and make informed decisions as products and markets evolve.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Know what
you’re getting.

Does the brief cover every state?

Coverage is available across all 50 states. The $29 monthly subscription includes federal updates and up to five states of your choice, confirmed when you subscribe. The complimentary sample covers Minnesota, Tennessee, and Kentucky only to demonstrate the format and analysis. For more than five states, inquire about a custom package.

Can you tailor the work to our business?

Yes. Choose up to five states for the $29 monthly brief. For broader coverage or focused research around your markets, formulations, product formats, manufacturing questions, or education needs, we can discuss a custom package. Each engagement starts with a defined scope and deliverables, so your team knows what it will receive.

Is this legal advice or a product approval?

No. The brief provides regulatory information and business planning analysis. Your team should seek qualified legal advice for product and jurisdiction specific obligations.

How are forecasts presented?

Policy outlooks are separately dated and clearly labeled as analyst judgment. Probabilities are subjective estimates that may change with new evidence. They are not predictions guaranteed by a government source.

How is the research sourced?

Reports use independently developed analysis of public statutes, regulations, agency guidance, and legislative materials. Enacted law, proposals, guidance, and interpretation are kept distinct. Confidential client information is excluded.

How can I stop marketing emails?
